Tungsten Based Balance Mallory 3000
Weight Material:
Mallory 3000 is a "High Density Metal" (H.D.M.) with a density more than twice that of steel:  This together with its high strength and good machinability makes it an ideal material from which to make weights for the balancing of rotating plant.
Density Data:

Applications: All forms of rotating plant e.g. crankshafts, flywheels, electric motors and generators, propeller blades, gas turbine rotors, radar and gyroscopes, gymbol weights.

Method of Use: Most commonly used in the "drill and fill" technique, however, due to its high mechanical strength and good machinability it can also be used as a shaped weight, for mechanical attachment, or in the form of nuts, bolts and washers.

Strength: Being an inherently strong material Mallory 3000 does not suffer from the problems of creep (deformation) as would Lead when subjected to the high loads found in rotating equipment as a result of the "G" forces developed during their operation.

User Friendly: Despite its high tungsten content Mallory 3000 can be cut and machined (turned, drilled, milled, tapped, ground etc) without any particular difficulties.  As in all types of grinding operations the resulting dust must be suitably extracted.  Additionally, the material is totally non-toxic, making it more acceptable in today's more ecologically aware society.

  Associated Data - Mallory Tungsten-based materials - Health & Safety Data 1300 : 550.

Availability: The following sizes of ground bar 5/16", ½", 5/8", 7/8" and 1" diameter in lengths of 12" are available as sintered pieces or finished machined components can be readily provided.

Technical Support: Mallory Alloys Group extensive knowledge of High Density Metals and their methods of manufacture can offer the engineer/designer advice on all aspects of their use and fabrication.

Technical Note: While Mallory 3000 is the most commonly used H.D.M. for dynamic balancing, other Mallory H.D.M. materials such as Mallory 1000, Mallory 2000 and Mallory 3950 can also be employed.
