Form of Delivery:            Round, flat, square bars, forging plates, finished parts to drawing.

 Processing Information:

Hot Working

Mallory 353 can be easily hot worked at 900 - 700oC approx.  The forming operation should be followed by rapid cooling.

Cold-forming

Mallory 353 can be cold-worked well in a solution heat-treated state.  Perform intermediate annealing at around 800oC followed by rapid cooling.

Heat Treatment

Mallory 353 should be solution heat-treated prior to temperature hardening.

 Solution heat-treating.

 15 - 60 minutes at 900 - 960oC followed by cooling in water.

 Hardening: 1 - 5 hours at 460 - 480oC followed by slow cooling.

Machining

It is recommended that Mallory 353 be machined in its hardened state (e.g. turning, shaving, milling).  Ensure adequate cooling.  When drilling it is advantageous to use drills with an extended angle of twist.

 Joining Work

Mallory 353 can be soft-soldered on prepared surfaces.  Brazing with low-melting point silver fillers can also be implemented.  However, a drop in the hardness is likely when the soldering temperature cannot be limited to 400oC.  Welding in accordance with the TIG method is possible but preferably in a solution heat-treated state.  Ensure good ventilation in so doing and provide additional extraction of welding fumes by suction.
