SILVER-GRAPHITE ELKANITES - DF SERIES
The Elkanite DF series is produced primarily
for specialised applications in which the contact material is required to have
self-lubricating properties.
The material
can be produced in extruded form and the contacts are cut from the extruded
stock so that the contact face is perpendicular to the direction of extrusion.
In this form the erosion rate of Elkanite DF silver graphite is minimized; an
important feature since arcing times tend to be extended by the presence of
carbon.

Elkanite D58-1% offers the greatest
ductility of the DF range although there is a reduced lubricity and weld resistance
Elkanite D58-2% offers a combination
of high conductivity with good lubricity and weld resistance.
Elkanite D58-5% provides the maximum
lubricity and weld resistance.
Elkanite DF series silver graphite are
usually attached to copper or copper alloy backings by brazing or welding. To
facilitate this operation Elkanite DF contacts are specially treated prior to
despatch. In view of this it is important when ordering to ensure that the contact
drawing specifies which face is to be bonded to the backing.
The specific properties of the Elkanite
DF series make them particularly attractive in current-limiting miniature circuit
breakers (MCB's) since the nature of the device dictates that the contacts should
never weld together when tipped.
