Health Hazards General: If machining operations are carried out in dry conditions (without lubricant) metal dust particles are likely to be generated and could therefore present a potential hazard from respirable dust and nuisance particulates.

References available at this time report no adverse effects as a result of exposure to tungsten.  The metal being only slightly soluble is therefore considered as toxicologically inert.

Dust in the eyes should be washed out with large amounts of water.  If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.

Inhalation: Inhalation of dust may cause irritation to lung and mucous membranes, so should be avoided by using suitable local ventilation or personal protective equipment.  A face mask and goggles should be used if carrying out dry machining operations.

Fire & Explosion Hazard: Tungsten powder and grinding dust can constitute a weak fire and explosion hazard.  Extinguish with dry powder or sand.
